Jacqui Monks is a video artist and writer based in Perth, Western Australia. She is fascinated by the notion of the interior, psychological self as a shifting, ambiguous state that calls into question our sense of being present or indeed, of being ‘real.’ In exploring this nebulous terrain, many of her works utilise a low-tech animation method, in which hundreds of photocopied frames of video are manually drawn over and reinserted into an editing application to produce a jittery, fragile doppelganger of the original, or ‘real’ version.
