Waulking Road draws on the associations of woollen fibre with care, warmth, and protection.

Waulking Road
Waulking Road was developed for exhibition at Southern Forest Arts, Northcliffe, as part of Resonance: Dialogues in Art and Ecology in 2025.
Included in Creating Space, the work draws on the associations of woollen fibre with care, warmth, and protection. Fibre, particularly wool, also speaks to home and place. It carries memory, comfort and belonging, suggesting how material can hold lived experience and sustain a connection to what is familiar and shaped over time.
Spinning and weaving are slow, hand-made process that resist haste. In this installation, these gestures extend to the surrounding environment, proposing a way of moving through uncertainty with care and observation. The work also reflects on the privilege of caring roles, and the necessity to make space for self-care.
