Art Museum in a Box

Bringing our exhibitions to you

For housebound, chronically ill, injured, disabled, and carer audiences, the chance to see an exhibition in person can be extremely challenging – or is simply, impossible.

We at the SICK AF Collective know what it is like to balance limited energy, protect our immune systems, navigate triggers and manage our ‘spoons’.

Online access to our exhibitions and programs is vital to the Collective. But, this does mean we miss out on seeing art in person.

So – we created the ‘Art Museum in a Box’ series.

The SICK AF Collective’s ‘Art Museum in a Box’ initiative brings opportunity for audiences unable to access galleries and workshops – to their HOME.

Made for you by fellow SICK AF artists, the Art Museum in a Box pilot project was launched as part of THE STORM exhibition’s accessibility program, November 2025 at Nyisztor Studio.

Borrowing a Box logistics

A ‘library style’ loan system will manage box borrowing.

An art collection ‘condition reporting’ process will be inbuilt into the box return process, which prior to returning or sending onwards, will check off each of the items, note any wear and tear. This process also acts as an education opportunity, sharing how artwork is monitored on tour.

Boxes can be loaned straight from the gallery or appointed lenders, sent and returned by Australia Post parcels (plus postage costs), swapped via peer to peer networks or delivered by existing loan networks (ie libraries and community centres).
